
The Historical Society of East Pennsboro honored local students during its annual spring dinner meeting on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
Held at Central Penn College, the event welcomed a whopping 110 guests who enjoyed a dinner prepared by the college’s catering service. Along with fellowship and updates on the Historical Society, the evening celebrated this year’s recipients of the Herb Kruger Memorial Scholarship.
East Pennsboro Area High School seniors Jonathan Hoover and Abigail Wadlinger were each awarded a $1,000 scholarship in recognition of their academic achievements and dedication throughout the school year. The Society expressed its pride in supporting their continued education as they prepare to enter college.
Guest speaker Eugene Wingert also addressed the audience, sharing stories about local figure Hardey Disney and the tradition of duck hunting along the Susquehanna River. His remarks provided a unique look into local history and the region’s sporting heritage. Fun Fact: The average price for a duck used to be only 25 cents!
The Historical Society’s spring dinner remains a cherished tradition, bringing together members, students, and community leaders to celebrate East Pennsboro’s past and future.
